The War on Drugs Is a Failure

The War on Drugs Is a Failure – The War on Drugs is a campaign of prohibition and foreign military aid and military intervention being undertaken by the United States government, with the assistance of participating countries, intended to both define and reduce the illegal drug trade. This initiative includes a set of drug policies of the United States that are intended to discourage the production, distribution, and consumption of illegal psychoactive drugs. The term “War on Drugs” was first used by President Richard Nixon in 1971. On May 13, 2009, Gil Kerlikowske, the current Director of the (ONDCP), signaled that although it did not plan to significantly alter drug enforcement policy, the Obama administration would not use the term “War on Drugs,” as he claims it is “counter-productive”. ONDCP’s view is that “drug addiction is a disease that can be successfully prevented and treated… making drugs more available will make it harder to keep our communities healthy and safe.”(2011) One of the alternatives that Mr Kerlikowske has showcased is Sweden’s Drug Control Policies that combine balanced public health approach and opposition to drug legalization. The prevalence rates for cocaine use in Sweden are barely one-fifth of European neighbors such as the United Kingdom and Spain. In June 2011, the Global Commission on Drug Policy released a critical report on the War on Drugs, declaring “The global war on drugs has failed, with devastating consequences for

  • Elizabeta Macovei says:

Yes, because the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy is a druggie whose life is a failure; a complete wreck of a man. He’s a parasite on society, living from one high to the next. Plus, he’s talking only to push an agenda, he’s got no idea what the reality of the situation is.
Look, sarcasm aside, it’s perfectly all right to not like a point of view that disagrees with what you think, but at least consider that you might be wrong and the guy talking? about his own job is right.

Now that jails are being privatized and huge profits stand to be made Congress and Senate will be in on these profits. Not a chance in hell letting go of war on drugs it is impossible. The two states that just voted to legalize? pot are amassing a huge backlash christian push to get these laws reversed. Believe me the laws and legislation will be squeezed to the point arrests will be held up for pepper and oregano in your pantry.

You do understand what a Schedule I drug is do you not?? Is when they are said to have no medical benefit, which Marijuana absolutely does, especially in comparison to Cigarettes which have absolutely no benefit, in fact are more harmful to pregnant women than crack/cocaine. Just because something is illicit doesn’t make the law “right”. Your perception on what is “right or wrong” is twisted.

I am thinking the exact same thing. THIS my friend is what our America has become by completely shutting off any and every bit of education about drugs. There is this ridiculous hush hush notion that drugs are of no concern to anyone who does not do them and that those who do are simply of a lower class and deserve anything that happens to them. It’s like there? is no need to educate, like it’s so black and white. The paradox is that those who don’t have a clue will be the ones to decide for us!
